What On Earth?
Good gravy, I can’t help thinking
We’re celebrating another day
We’ve somehow manufactured—
Of course it’s all for a good cause
I mean, who could be against
Lauding the planet, putting a plug
In for Gaia, she that sustains
All of us, even as the ingrates we
so often prove ourselves to be
Good old mother earth just keeps
Turning, letting us rotate with her
Only occasionally rumbling from
Deep down in her core and throwing
Us curves as she shifts her weight
Reminding us with seismic coughs
Or volcanic sneezes, that it is she
Who is in charge, so yes, maybe we
Should be celebrating her and not
Just once a year but every day
